The Ingress Protection (IP) Scale System

The Ingress Protection (IP) scale system is recognised globally. To gain an IP rating, lights have to undergo two strict tests. The first test assesses the light against foreign bodies like dust and the second test measures protection from liquids.

An IP rating will include two numbers. The first number indicates the level of protection against solids, and the second number represents protection against liquids.

The IP69K is the highest level of protection and is designed for applications where water jets are under high pressures and high temperatures. Whereas IP66 rated LEDs are protected from total dust ingress and high pressure water jets from any direction.
