LED office lighting

In the UK, there are thousands of large and small scale businesses, and many offices are still using traditional bulbs in their workspace.

Dim, dull lights that affect their workers’ performance which in turn affects the performance of the business as a whole. But, in the past several years there has been a rise of replacing these with LED bulbs. We explain in more detail why changing to energy saving lighting helps not only modernise office settings but also improves on work efficiency.

A simple change to LED bulbs for your office lighting has so many benefits, if you haven’t already:

LED bulbs have 10-20 times longer lifespan than traditional halogen or incandescent bulbs

By lasting longer they use less power, therefore cost-effective in the long run

They are more efficient as they run with less electricity

Office spaces can remain in cool temperature as LED bulbs have a lower heat output, which also lessens the risk of fire

Compared to traditional bulbs, LED bulbs have a faster warm up and switching times

As they have lower CO2 emissions they have less risk of containing toxic materials, like mercury

They are aesthetically pleasing because of the many colour options and style of bulbs to help match with office spaces and preferences

The key benefit of LEDs is how they replicate natural light, which provides workers with many advantages. Traditional bulbs don’t provide strong lighting source, leading to many suffering from lighting deficiency as body clocks stop regulating.

But, with the introduction to LEDs, studies now show that exposure to bright light can induce alertness and vitality providing less tense and more pleasant environments within office hours. Blue lighting is the key feature that stimulates production of hormones that are responsible for alertness and activity.

One in five people in the UK are affected by SAD (sleep deprivation, agitation and depression) but with the exposure of high levels of light these symptoms have been shown to significantly reduce. LED lights can be regulated more easily, helping bring control of office lighting back to workers, so this may be one of the reasons why workers feel less stressed and more satisfied with their jobs.

The following are different styles that you may need to illuminate an office space effectively:

Panels - a statement bulb type that can cater towards large and small office spaces and for hallways

Floor standing lights - helps to illuminate a specific part of a space, like desks or a waiting room

High Bays - these can be a modern replacement to hanging lamps, making spaces feel more comfortable, like reception areas

Suspended linear lighting - hanging from the ceiling by a cord, rod or chain, suspended lighting helps create a comfortable and focused space for workers in smaller areas within the office space, such as conference rooms

Desk lamps - these are ideal for office workers at night that need extra lighting, providing a personal preference of lighting for each worker that can improve on their productivity

LED bulbs can help lower costs, maintenance, and stress levels in offices for the long run. To take a further look at the bulbs listed above for lighting fixture replacements in offices, please visit our Products page.
